I don't even remember checks at all. The only pay I can remember getting is cash. Lining up at a table where sat a paymaster (some designated junior officer, usually) surrounded by MAA's. I guess this mostly happened onboard ships where I spent most of my time. In Viet Nam we were paid the same way, but in something we called script.
Nope = don't remember checks at all. Bummer...musta been good barrom munciesd and free drinks that kept me going.
