Well, let's think this through.
The average wage in the mid-late sixties was around $5,000 (gross).
That was average, not for an 18 year old kid.
Along with our pay we got:
free room and board
free electricity, water, and general home maintenance.
free luxurious lifestyle, pool, movies, pool room, tv room, bar on premises, baseball field, bohio.
free medical care
free FOOD
So, in addition to all those freebies, we
"netted" a pretty good amount of dough, in my opinion. Maybe because my pre Navy life was so miserable, I see it differently.
